Over the years there has been a multitude of books, DVD’s and seminars devoted to losing weight. The vast array of information on its own can be over whelming. Some profess to be miracle programs designed to shed the kilos with little or no effort. These “miracle programs” often leave the buyer short changed and with little guarantee of sustained long term weight loss.
With this in mind we would like to present some basic, yet practical ways you can achieve long term weight loss without the gimmicks.
The first step is Begin with the end in mind, this philosophy really helps you gain focus towards your goal. Beginning with the end the mind keeps you focused when you feel like giving up. This does come with a disclaimer, you should set a realistic goal, one that you feel is achievable for you. There is no point setting a goal that is so unachievable that failure is assured.
So step one is #Begin with the end in mind
For many the thought of big changes to their life styles or eating habits can seem daunting, this is why it is important to begin with small easy changes that are achievable. Like we discussed in “Goal Setting” starting small allows you to make changes that won’t over whelm you and lead you to failure.
So step two is #Start Small
So now we know to start small and with the end in mind, but where do we start? This is step three seek advice; this can be in the form of a book or some professional group like a gym or perhaps someone like a naturopath or dietician. If you’re not sure about where to go, try online, there are many forums and web sites run by people just like you, who are willing to give you a push in the right direction.
So step three is #Seek advice.
So now we have a goal and the steps to take to achieve it, we come to step four, Do it! So many people begin with great vigor, collecting information asking all the right questions and setting awesome goals and then nothing! It is common that we find this occurring over and over. So “just do it” push yourself if you have too. Get on track straight away and make those small changes. One of my favorite sayings is “There’s nothing to it, but to do it” doing this can be empowering giving you the energy to make bigger goals and setting the ground work for future weight loss success.
So step four is #Do it!
The road to sustained weight loss is long term, it requires focus and effort to stay on it, but for those who follow it, the changes it brings to every aspect of their lives is worth the journey.
